A noise in the kitchen caught his attention, and he quietly walked toward the end of the hall. When he saw Kinsley, his breath hitched, and he leaned against the wall to watch her for a moment. His chest tightened at having her so close again. The years they’d spent apart ate him. The misunderstandings between them didn’t help, nor the lack of a correct phone number so he could have called her. She ignited a fire in him from their teen years that still burned hot. If he wasn’t careful, he’d shift and take her without notice, and that was the last thing he wanted.
The need she created within his body grew to a fevered pitch and if they didn’t settle things soon, he would shift and mate with her without a warning. Last night had nearly undone him, and tonight only made the fire burn brighter. Her giggle made him smile.
It only took a moment for her to realize that he watched her, when she spun around. “What?”
Damn, she was gorgeous, but he stayed leaning against the doorway. “You’re just too cute for your own good.”
She slowly walked toward him, teasing with every sway of her hips. It was as though each step tore his heart open a little more. Kai had to force himself to stand still and let her come to him.
She did.
Her scent seared through his system like a backdraft, and his jaw tightened, resisting the urge to touch her yet.
Take her! His feral instincts wanted to win this game tonight.
She sniffed the air between them, then sniffed again, and closed her eyes as though savoring the moment. A small moan escaped her throat, and after a moment, she looked into his eyes. Emerald pools full of mischief gazed back at him, taunted him, begged him to kiss her.
But he didn’t.
Not yet.
A slow deep breath filled his lungs as he tightened the grip on his feral instincts. Down, boy. You can’t take her yet. It’s not time.
“But you know you want to.” Her lips pouted as she tipped her head higher to meet his six-foot-two gaze, and took half a step closer, her breasts touching his chest.
How could she read his mind? The passion sparked between them, and he barely held it together. “You’re quite the tease, witchy woman.”
“Two can play at this game.” She winked, and the sensuous look in her eyes taunted him. “How long can you hold out?”
Fuck!
His teeth bit into his upper lip as she watched him.
His jeans got extremely tight, aching for what he’d wanted for the last five days. He knew she already tasted good.
Just give in already!
No! Stay out of it.
She lightly ran a finger down the side of his neck, her touch barely meeting his skin. His muscles went taut.
Her tongue wet her lips and disappeared.
A manicured nail moved over his chest and lightly circled his nipple. His crotch electrified as he sucked in more air.
His gaze never wavered from hers. She was stronger than he gave her credit for.
Teasingly, she gently pinched his hardened nipple, watching his reaction. His eyes closed for a moment as he breathed in again, then her firm grip gave a half twist.
That was it!
He bent to her side, grabbed her thighs, and threw her over his shoulder so fast she didn’t know what happened.
She screamed out more from the shock, but her arms wrapped around his hips, and her fingers grabbed ahold at the front of his jeans.
That nearly undid his resolved as he smacked a full hand to her ass.
She screamed again.
“I should have done this the first day I saw you, woman. You teased me that day, too! I guess you need to be taught a lesson about being a tease.” He leaned over and she fell onto the bed, her arms outstretched to catch herself, her long hair spread over the pillows.
“God, I need you.”
